Sources close to the negotiation told ESPN that the deal is a permanent transfer, with América expected to pay around $6.7 million for Gutiérrez, a left-sided midfielder who came up through Cruz Azul’s academy. Gutiérrez made his professional debut in the 2019 Clausura and has since played 103 matches for Cruz Azul, scoring six goals and registering eight assists. Known for his versatility and playmaking from the left wing, he’s expected to compete directly with Brian Rodríguez for a starting spot – though Rodríguez may be on his way out, with interest from MLS and Spanish clubs.
América's front office plans to make at least four signings this transfer window, with Gutiérrez being the first. In addition to a left winger, the club is targeting a striker, an attacking midfielder, and potentially a right-back.
