As reported by The Mirror, West Ham United are interested in signing Everton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin in the upcoming January transfer window.
What’s the story?
The opportunity to buy players is just days away and for the Hammers is a big opportunity for new manager David Moyes to stamp his own look on the first team at the London Stadium.
Given recent performances, a big priority is likely to be the central midfield area, with the likes of Pedro Obiang and Cheikhou Kouyate lacking form and confidence, leaving their defensive line exposed.
According to The Mirror, one man Moyes is targeting is Morgan Schneiderlin.
The paper reckon that Sam Allardyce is chasing Sevilla’s Steven N’Zonzi and that could open the door for the former Man United star to make a switch to London.
Moyes has a budget of £20m to land his preferred midfield choice, according to the report.
What West Ham need?
There’s no doubt that the Irons need a bit of stability in the central areas and Schneiderlin’s composed defensive midfield play could be just the ticket they’re looking for.
The Frenchman is a proven English Premier League performer and despite some training ground troubles has had regular action at the Toffees this season. Everton haven’t lost the last five top-flight matches he’s been a part of.
At 28 years of age, he not only has experience but could be coming into his prime and given new responsibility at the London Stadium, could find the form that won him a big move to Manchester United a few years ago.
If this reported move comes off, it’s one that West Ham fans should feel optimistic about.
