As reported by The Mirror, Everton are interested in bringing Sean Dyche to Goodison Park to succeed departed manager Ronald Koeman, but face having to make a significant financial sacrifice to do so.
What’s the story?
The Toffees are in a state of transition right now after the disappointment of Koeman’s reign and with middling results under caretaker David Unsworth, time is precious when it comes to making a permanent appointment.
One man they are certainly interested in is Burnley boss Sean Dyche, report The Mirror, who say that senior figures at the club have made him their preferred choice to take the club forward.
However, there’s a stumbling block, with a potential £4m salary being a point of contention according to the paper, especially as money man Farhad Moshiri has yet to be convinced Dyche is the right man, preferring a big name like Diego Simeone.
A reliable choice
Sean Dyche may not be the big name or the glamorous appointment that gets Toffees fans particularly excited, but that may not be a bad thing, with the club needing to consolidated and find stability after a big summer of transfer spending.
They need a reliable, experienced hand to come in and take on the challenge and Dyche is very much a pragmatic and qualified choice.
Having been at Burnley for half a decade, he’s brought great success to the club, guiding them to the English Premier League from the Championship and establishing them as a difficult to beat top-flight side.
Last season they finished six points ahead of relegation and this term they’re flying high, currently in seventh place with 19 points, eight ahead of Everton despite a massive difference in resources.
He can undoubtedly do a job if given time at the Toffees and while it’s different kind of pressure at a bigger club, he deserves his shot at leading a team like Everton forward.
