The introduction of Cenk Tosun was crucial to Everton’s win over Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, and it was a performance that has prompted some Everton fans to call for increased involvement in the side.
When Tosun signed for the Toffees in January 2018 for £27m he was intended to be the main striker, but he has since scored only eight league goals.
His failure to find the net on a regular basis restricted him to just one league start in the final 11 games of the previous season.
However, his replacement, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, struggled for form in the same period, scoring just twice between February and May, and so far this season he is yet to get on the scoresheet despite starting every Premier League match.
As a result, some Everton fans are keen for a change and, after witnessing Tosun’s headed knock-down for Alex Iwobi’s goal against Lincoln, they have begun to question why the Turkey international hadn’t featured prior to Wednesday night.
