Liverpool fans have had a rough ride when it comes to summer business this week. Just days ago it looked as is a deal for Southampton captain Virgil van Dijk was almost certain and would be announced quicker than you could say ‘club statement.’
However, following allegations of illegal behaviour by the Saints and a potential investigation from the Premier League and on Wednesday the club released a statement that no one expected.
The message coming out of Anfield was an apologetic one aimed at the south coast club and it’s fans, whilst also claiming that their interest in the Dutch international was over.
The 25-year-old missed half of the season with an ankle injury picked up thanks to a reckless Jamie Vardy challenge just after the turn of the year, however, his form up to the injury was enough to warrant reports of a £60m move this summer.
Whilst the saga continued to whirl around him the former Celtic man decided to tease Reds fans with a cryptic message on Twitter…
And it didn’t take long for fans on Merseyside to beg the Dutchman to press on with the move…
