Sunderland appear to be close to the loan signing of Greg Docherty but they have been unable to complete the proposed deal prior to the weekend despite news of the move first breaking on Wednesday.
Sky Sports’ Keith Downie initially reported the news and supporters have since been discussing the prospect of the Rangers man joining, with many rightly treating it as a positive development.
The 23-year-old offers goals and assists in the third-tier having made 21 goal contributions for Shrewsbury last term, and if he can replicate that form he should be a valuable asset for Phil Parkinson.

Many Black Cats supporters are impressed with the midfielder and think he has a variety of attributes that mean he will add to the Sunderland team, possibly taking the first-team place of George Dobson or Max Power.
First of all the club has to get over the small matter of completing a deal, but Parkinson’s admission that talks have been conducted between the two parties is a positive and he could arrive next week.
He’s not the only target whose move to the Stadium of Light has been postponed, with Bailey Wright also likely the unnamed individual Phil Parkinson spoke of being unable to make a move this week.
Injury to teammate Nathan Baker meant Bristol City wanted to hang onto Wright this weekend and though that is out of Sunderland’s control, some fans have grown frustrated at the time it is taking the club to complete the loan dealings.
It’s the dawn of a new decade in the Premier League, but how much do you know about the last 10 years?
Another supporter has shared an opposing view to the consensus, too, arguing that Docherty is a “cheap signing who won’t cut it”, using his potential arrival as a reason to aim criticism at the much-maligned Stewart Donald.
Elsewhere, the north-east outfit have made a positive step off the pitch which could really help Parkinson’s men on it.
